Task
2.1 Identification of Thematic Content: Identification of the
themes that the STATLAS will cover and the corresponding level of
detail. Themes refer to: Demography, Economic Accounts, Unemployment,
Labour Force, Energy, Transport Agriculture, Education and Research
and Development Task 2.2 Analysis of the Display Alternatives and Rules: Effective communication requires that the various symbols should be carefully modulated and fitted together. Analysis of the display alternatives of the map components, devised systematically to fit the objectives. Development of rules for the allowable symbolisation versus scale, the degree of generalisation to be applied and other display restrictions in order to protect the user from creating incorrect presentations. Task 2.3 Building of the System Database: The core of the STATLAS will be its database where all geographical and statistical information will be stored. Data will be collected, evaluated, organised into thematic categories, pre-processed and stored in the database in accordance with the multimedia map file format. Due to the domination of the Internet applications, a feasibility study will be carried out to examine the possibility of storing the database in a networked environment |
